Lloyd Silsby

After graduation, I worked on our family farm. In 1973, I married Judy Kozyra. We have 3 boys: Jason, 28, lives in Buffalo, Chris, 26, lives in Cheektowaga (married, no kids), and Eric, 24, lives in West Palm Beach, FL (married, no kids). They are all happy and doing well.

Judy and I ran Lloyd Silsby Farms from the homestead on Rochester Rd. until 2001. We sold the farms and the house and all the equipment. It was quite an ordeal for the whole family. Things hadn’t gone well. The weather, low prices, higher expenses, and governmental regulations made it impossible to continue farming in New York. We took a huge leap of faith and moved to Florida. Through a very complicated and almost unbelievable set of circumstances I found a wonderful job with Thomas Produce Company in Boca Raton. I am a farm manager on a 16,000 acre fresh market vegetable farm (tomatoes, peppers, cukes, green beans, eggplants). It is the largest farm on the eastern seaboard (family owned and operated). Judy works in the farm offices.

We really like the area and love our life. (Sure do miss the people in Gasport.) Looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion.

2015 Update:  A lot has happened in the last 50 years!

Judy and I are still married…42 years now…my how time flies.

We have been in Boynton Beach Florida for 14 years now. We are still working for The Thomas Produce Company in Boca Raton. I am one of the farm managers for the 16,000-acre fresh market vegetable farm (peppers, cukes, green beans and specialty hot peppers). Our company is the largest family owned and operated farm in the southeast. Our produce is shipped all over the country and into Canada.

Judy is working in the farm offices and takes care of all the company insurance needs.

Our jobs keep us busy from September thru June. We aren’t looking to retire anytime soon. Guess we just love our jobs too much!!

Our 3 sons are all doing well. Chris is still in New York…can’t seem to get him down here. Jason and Eric live here.

We are enjoying our life in Florida. Still miss the people in New York. We try to visit each summer to catch up with everyone. We would love to make the September yearly gatherings, but, we are really busy on the farm then.

We are looking forward to the 50th Reunion and seeing you all there.
